Japan


In Japan, tall buildings do not have a fourth floor. Thinking why? Because they avoid the number four(shi) as it sounds the same as the word for death(shi).

Haiku, a traditional form of the Japanese poetry is the world's shortest poetic form and consists of only three lines. 

Ōkunoshima, an island in Japan, is full of rabbits. You might be thinking how? Well, they were brought there during World War II to test the effects of poison gas.

In Japan, many girls go to the dentist to have their teeth purposefully unstraightened. Do you know why? Because Yaeba, or crooked teeth, are considered attractive in Japan. 

They have hotel rooms the size of 2 square meters long and 1.20 meters high and they are known as Capsule hotels.

75 % of Japan is mountainous, which forces 93.5 % of its population to live in the remaining 25 & of the land.

In Japan, it is considered rude to tear the wrapping paper off of a gift.

It’s thought that washing newborns in salt water will make them strong, truthful and bold. Children’s fingernails and hair are only cut after their first birthday.


You can float through the capital

Baku is also home to Little Venice, a man-made waterway that flows between shops, restaurants and entertainment venues. It has a number of islands, connected by bridges and walkways – but the best way to get around is by gondola.

Senegal Facts

In Senegal, taxis have tails. Yes, an artificial tail made of goat or sheep hair and it supposedly brings good luck.


Senegal merged with Gambia, to form Senegambia in 1982. But apart from the unification of the names, nothing else changed much. The two countries still maintain border and neither care to unify with the other.

Senegal’s grasslands have given the country its two national symbols, the baobab tree, and the red lion.

Dakar is home to the tallest statue in Africa. The African Renaissance Monument built in 2010, stands at an impressive 49 m.

It has seven World Heritage Sites

They are: Goree Island, Saloum Delta, Bassari Country, Saint-Louis Island, the Stone Circles of Senegambia, Djoudj National Bird Sanctuary and Niokolo-Koba National Park. In Africa, only Morocco (9), Ethiopia (9), Tunisia (8) and South Africa (8) have more World Heritage Sites.
